The Savannah Food & Wine Festival 2013 Volunteer Application

Welcome Volunteers “Agents of Southern Hospitality!”

 

Volunteering is your opportunity to be a part of the Festival! It’s a chance to showcase yourself as an “Agent of Southern Hospitality” for the Festival and the City of Savannah.  We are looking for a few dedicated food, wine and/or people enthusiasts who are willing to invest your time to see the Festival be as successful as possible. By being a volunteer, you will play a vital part in the execution of the Festival as well as obtain unique event experience that can also be a great opportunity to learn from some of the country’s leading culinary and wine experts.

The Festival has also just been approved as a United Way of the Coastal Empire approved volunteer agency – which means Hands On Savannah volunteers and teams can earn United Way volunteer hours by working on the Savannah Food & Wine Festival. Please encourage your friends, family and co-workers and volunteer together - (you will receive a free River Street Wine Stroll or Taste of Savannah ticket, souvenir apron and a GoVino glass).  Please register on our website below and the United Way of the Coastal Empire’s Hands On Savannah website: http://handsonsavannah.galaxydigital.com/

 

Volunteer Benefits

 

• One complimentary ticket that may be used to enjoy the event after your volunteer shift has ended (for the Taste of Savannah) or to be given to a friend or family member for the River Street Wine Stroll or the Taste of Savannah

• Free, souvenir Volunteer Apron and GoVino wine glass – Apron must be worn while working the event and must be removed after volunteer hours have been completed

• Water/Coca-Cola products and snacks for “working” volunteers

 

Important Information

 

• Must be 21 or older and be prepared to show proof of age at all times on the day of the event.

• Attire: White Shirts, Black pants (no jeans) with black event Apron (provided on site). If it happens to be chilly for your shift, please dress in layers

• Some positions may require lifting or other physical labor

• Confirmation of your volunteer position will be sent via email as well as additional information regarding your volunteer role. Please email info@savannahfoodandwinefest.com with any questions

• Volunteers must sign the Savannah Food & Wine Festival Waiver Form

• Volunteers must attend a Mandatory Orientation/Training in-person meeting. There will be three in person training sessions scheduled: October 28, 2013 at 6:00 p.m., November 4, 2013 at 6 p.m. and November 5, 2013 at 5 p.m. at the Tourism Leadership Council office located on Hutchinson Island in the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center, in the SMG Administrative offices - 2nd floor (near the Convention Center loading docks).  Please enter the door on that side of the building.  Parking will be available in the main parking lot area.

Volunteer Position Description

 

Exhibitor Registration Volunteers

• Provide exhibitor onsite registration and directions

• Answer logistical questions and provide assistance as necessary

 

Presenter Volunteers

• Work with “talent” to ensure their prompt arrival for sessions

• Meet and greet talent and escort to presenting areas, etc.

• Assist with main tent areas

 

Exhibitor Load-in/Load-Out Volunteers

• Assist exhibitors with load in, logistical questions and coordinate the process with the transportation team

• Provide exhibitors with direction to their exhibit booth space and ensure all necessary equipment is in place

 

Registration Volunteers

• Register guests as they arrive, scan tickets, hand glassware, put on wristbands

• Assist with walk-up ticket purchasers day of event

• Warmly welcome all guests to the Event

• Distribute name badges, lanyards and programs to attendees

• Be knowledgeable about agenda timing and locations in order to answer questions and give detailed directions

• If an attendee does not have a ticket or a badge, escort the attendee to the “Solutions Area” where the “Team Captain” will privately address any questions

• Ensure registration area is well organized

• Manage flow of attendees through registration space

 

Celebrity Chef Kitchen/Learning Experiences Tent Support

• Work with “talent” to ensure their prompt arrival for sessions

• Meet and greet talent and escort to tent, performance stages, etc.

• Assist with stage set up and ensure requested equipment is in place

• Assist in serving demo tastings/food & wine

 

Wine & Food Booth Volunteers

• Assist event staff with load in and onsite needs of all the wine and food vendors

• Ensure timely replenishing and clearing

• Help guests find preferred choice of exhibitors

• Be knowledgeable about agenda timing and locations in order to answer questions and give detailed directions

 

VIP Vintner’s Lounge Set-up Registration & Management Volunteers

• Assist with VIP check-in process

• Assist with needs inside the tent such as catering

• Warmly welcome all guests to the Event

• Be knowledgeable about agenda timing and locations in order to answer questions and give detailed directions

• If an attendee does not have a VIP badge, escort the attendee to the solutions area where Team Captain will address any questions

Waste/Recycling Volunteers

• Assist waste management staff to monitor recycling and trash dispersal

• Ensure clean and hygienic site and report concerns to Waste Management Team

 

Water/Ice Distribution

• Assist with water and ice needs to vendors, concessionaires, etc.

• Must be able to lift 25lbs bags or Ice and transfer via golf cart from freezer facility to exhibitors

Jesse Blanco, Eat It and Like It host, news anchor, and gourmet foodie.

I spent a lot of time chasing food and foodies last week.  By my math, I visited every event in the Savannah Food and Wine Festival except for three. Two were a result of not being able to be in two places at one time, the other (River Street Wine Stroll) was because of my staff obligations at  WSAV-TV.  The best feeling was seeing how excited so many people were about this event.
